Festivals
Warmer weather and longer days mean one thing in Southwestern Pennsylvania - it’s festival time!
The Monroeville Jazz Festival established in 2003 puts on a jazz concert each summer at Monroeville Tall Trees Amphitheatre. The Festival encourages and promotes jazz music for all ages and helps residents and visitors develop an appreciation of jazz as a unique American Art form.
Rock-climbing, anyone? The summer festival season kicks off in Pittsburgh with the annual Venture Outdoors Festival in Point State Park. This event highlights the outdoor recreation opportunities and amenities available in the region and provides attendees not only with information, but also with the chance to try many of these activities for free!
There’s something for everyone at June’s annual Three Rivers Arts Festival in Point State Park and around the city. The festival is the region’s largest multidisciplinary showcase of visual art and performing arts, and features an Artists Market, Children’s Area, multiple exhibition spaces located in the city’s vast gallery network, and plenty of live entertainment. In July the yearly Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix roars into Schenley Park. This 10-day festival of motorsport events culminates with the Annual Vintage Races and Car Show. Or it could be the annual Three Rivers Regatta the Golden Triangle’s greatest summertime show and Pittsburgh’s Official 4th of July Celebration featuring free air, land and water entertainment plus a spectacular fireworks display.
As the summer winds down in August and September, mingle with lords and ladies (and the occasional pirate) at the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, a medieval amusement park featuring combat jousting, games of skill, rides, a variety of renaissance delicacies, hundreds of authentically costumed performers and more than 80 master artisans exhibiting fine arts and crafts. The Pittsburgh Folk Festival promotes “Unity in Diversity” by presenting an annual festival of cultures. The festival now highlights the cultural diversity of more than 30 nationalities in the Pittsburgh area.
