Join us for a screening and discussion of Josiah, a documentary film about an enslaved man named Josiah Henson who overcame incredible odds and escaped from the United States to Ontario in 1830. Henson’s life inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 1852 blockbuster novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and yet his real-life story has been largely forgotten by history. The film includes interviews with leading experts and Henson’s living descendants, as it retraces his harrowing journey from slavery in Maryland and Kentucky to freedom in Canada.
