Monroeville Public Library is proud to participate in the 2017 One College, One Community Reads! program sponsored by the Community College of Allegheny County. This year’s Community Read title is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Please join us for a book discussion on March 21 in the Gallery Space.

Ta-Nehisi Coates is known for his thoughtful and influential writing on race in the United States. His memoir, Between the World and Me, written as a series of letters to his teenaged son, walks us through the course of his life, from the tough streets of Baltimore to Howard University, New York and Paris. Along the way Coates describes the evolution of his thinking on race, from the philosophy of Malcolm X to his conclusion that race itself is a fabrication, elemental to the concept of American (white) exceptionalism.
