Straw bale gardens are creative alternatives for urban gardeners who are unable to stoop, have poor clay soil, or don’t have enough space for conventional gardening. Please join us in the Gallery Space as Judith Schaffer presents the methodology of straw bale gardening, based on her experiences raising vegetables in bales of “seasoned” hay on her front porch. Judy is a former Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania (GCFP) District VII Director and GCFP 2014 Convention Chairman, and she is currently GCFP Pucketos Garden Club’s Horticulture Chairman. Her horticultural responsibilities include presenting regular monthly reports concerning the art and science of growing flowers, fruits and vegetables with an environmental emphasis. As a retired librarian, she continues to research and write gardening-related articles for District VII’s Trumpet Vine newsletter.
