Because of the inclement weather and snow-packed roads predicted for Tuesday, March 14, the Irish Times concert has been RESCHEDULED for Thursday, March 16!
The Irish Times is a Pittsburgh-based Irish traditional acoustic music trio featuring Oliver Browne on fiddle, Henry Shapiro on guitar, and Les Getchell on Irish percussion.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Oliver has a reputation as one of the finest Irish fiddlers in the United States and Ireland. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Henry is expert at a variety of musical genres, including bluegrass, klezmer, jazz, and swing. He is the cantor and spiritual leader of the Parkway Jewish Center. Regarded as one of the finest Irish percussionists in the U.S., Les has taught bodhrán, the Irish frame drum (pronounced BOW-ron) at music camps.
The group’s performance features the rich variety of styles played in Ireland, including reels, jigs, hornpipes, polkas, slip jigs, slides, and airs. This is the music you hear in Ireland’s pubs and social dance halls. It is the music featured in the movies Titanic, Ryan’s Daughter, The Brothers McMullen, and Gangs of New York and played by touring bands from Ireland such as The Chieftains, Boys of the Lough, Altan, and Lunasa.
